Toyota Teases All-New Corolla and Tells Us to Get "Really Excited"

After previewing the new generation of the Corolla with the "
Furia Corolla" concept car at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January, Toyota is set for the world premiere of the actual production car, which will take place at a special event in a couple of weeks in California on June 6.

But before that happens, the Japanese automaker will try to drum up some attention around the new 2014 Corolla sedan with teasers like the cropped picture seen above, which was accompanied by the following text: "Prepare to meet the NEW 2014 Corolla. Get excited for June 6, really excited…"

We received two new reviews on DealerRater this week!

"Car was cleaned very well and services made perfect. When I come to the dealership at an appointment, the sales person looking for the car for about 15 minutes and I had to follow him for walk throughout all the inventory to find the car back and forth which was little bit strange. The dealership should pay little bit more attention to after sale services is my suggestion."

"The experience was great from the very beginning. I was looking for a used Tacoma pickup truck (of which they had a nice selection with a multitude of packages/options) and to trade in the car I was driving at the time. They had the truck I was looking for and priced better, by a significant margin, than any of the other 4 dealerships I had looked in to. The sales staff was very helpful and spent the better part of a day working on the trade-in value and running numbers for a variety of financial options we were looking at. It was also a stress free and friendly atmosphere to buy a vehicle. Out of the 4 times I have purchased a vehicle in the past several years, this was the best experience I have had. I would absolutely recommend this dealership to a friend. The selection is varied and massive, and the staff I worked with was great."

Summer Maintenance Tips: Tires

Tires are one of the most overlooked parts of a car. According the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA), only one out of 10 drivers checks his or her tire pressure correctly, compared with almost seven out of 10 who wash their cars regularly [source: RMA]. But the truth is that an under-inflated, over-inflated, worn down or misaligned tire can be extremely dangerous, particularly in hot summer weather.

Tire pressure changes with the rising temperatures -- approximately one to two PSI (pounds per square inch) for every 10-degree increase in outside air temperature [source:RMA]. Consult your owner's manual or the sidewall of your tire to see what your tire pressure should be and check it with a hand pressure gauge or just let the guys at the service shop do it for you.

An under-inflated tire bulges outward and puts undo pressure on the sidewalls of the tire. With enough heat and pressure, that tire eventually will blow. An over-inflated tire, on the other hand, makes less contact with the road and can lead to hydroplaning in wet conditions.

Use the penny trick to see if you still have enough tread on your tires. Stick a penny in the tread, and if Lincoln's head disappears, you're good [source: CBS News]. Your local service shop or specialty tire store can also check your tires for proper alignment and balance.

And don't forget about your spare! There's no point in having a spare tire if your spare is in worse condition than the rest. Make sure the spare is properly inflated and has ample tread depth.

Besides being a safety concern, improperly inflated and misaligned tires can lower your car's fuel economy. If your tires are a total of eight pounds under-inflated -- not uncommon at all -- you'll waste up to up to a gallon of gas per month.

Worried that your tires won't make it through the hot months? Check out our offers tab on Facebook for our tire special this month!

Kyle Busch grabs victory at Darlington Raceway

Kyle Busch took the lead from Joey Logano 18 laps from the end to win his fifth Nationwide race this season and second in three years at Darlington Raceway on Friday night.

The victory also capped a dominant showing by the Busch boys at the track "Too Tough To Tame." Older brother Kurt set a qualifying record to win the pole for the Southern 500 on Saturday night. Kyle was third in Sprint Cup qualifying before dominating the Nationwide race.

The younger Busch started from the pole and was the strongest car throughout. He led for 107 of the 147 laps and finished about a second in front of Elliott Sadler. Joe Gibbs Racing placed three in the top five, Busch's teammates Brian Vickers taking third and Matt Kenseth fifth.

After Auction, the 1967 2000 GT Is Now the Most Expensive Toyota in History

It received little more than passing mention in the Lavishly Expensive Roadster Edition of Wheelies, but something significant happened a couple of weekends ago. It wasn’t earth shattering, but it was noteworthy: RM Auctions sold a 1967 Toyota 2000 GT for nearly $1.2 million. It ended up being one of the higher priced cars in a batch that included Ferraris, Porsches and one-off concept cars like a 1954 Chrysler GS-1 Special that sold for $616,000.

According to the figures David Kinney – publisher of Hagerty’s Price Guide – came up with, the yellow ’67 is not only the most expensive production Toyota in history, but also the highest-priced Asian production car ever.

“I believe it to be a double highest price ever achieved, both for a Toyota production car and for any Asian car,” he wrote in an e-mail. “I have looked for anything higher and have been unable to find it.”

Another 1967 2000 GT sold for $650,000 in March 2011.

But 2000 GTs were never cheap cars. An article in the February 2009 issue of Automobile magazine puts the list price of one when new at $7,230, which is more than $50,000 in today’s dollars. By comparison, a Chevrolet Corvette sold for $4,663 and a Jaguar E-Type for $5,559. Even a Porsche 911 was only $6,190.

The 2000 GT saw only limited production. Although the exact number of cars built varies from source to source, RM Auctions claims Toyota built 351 of the curvaceous little sports cars from 1967 to 1970. Toyota did not build enough cars to have established an American presence sufficient to be heard over the big block din of the muscle-car era, but it also means 2000 GTs are highly collectible now.

A technologically advanced car for its age, the 2000 GT featured a dual overhead cam 2-liter in-line 6-cylinder engine, fed by three Solex 2-barrel carburetors. It produced 150 horsepower at 7,000 r.p.m., and the engine was mated to a 5-speed manual overdrive transmission. In its description of the car, RM Auctions said it was capable of reaching a top speed of 135 miles per hour.

Although the 2000 GT was a short-lived nameplate, it left a lasting legacy. It was the car that showed Japanese car manufacturers that they were capable of building more than just family cars. Toyota, and later other Japanese automakers, knew they could do sporty, and they knew they could do beautiful.

We received three new reviews on Yelp this week!

"I just bought a 2103 Highlander SE from Mountain States Toyota. I did my research on the web and found the color I wanted at the price all dealers had...but then Matt Lind sharpened the pencil and quoted me a better price so I came in. Jake Morin handled the test drive and all the negotiating. He was very personable and easy to work with, but the offers for my two Jeeps were very low until I showed him (and he showed Ed Freehart, sales manager) the CarMax offers I'd just gotten. As it turned out the HIghlander price never came down and they only took the older jeep for trade, but matched the price CarMax offered. I sold the other Jeep to CarMax for $3000 (ridiculously easy transaction), came back in an hour and my car was prepped and ready. The zero percent financing was a big draw and Justin did a great job on the business end getting though the paperwork quickly. Driving the 65 miles round trip, buying a new car and leaving the two old Jeeps behind made for one very long afternoon/evening----but a very satisfying one. Thanks for the good up front price Mountain States, and thank you Toyota for the SUV I know I'll enjoy for years!"

"I drive Toyota Venza 2013 about 10 days. It's so wonderful. I love my car so much. I want to thank to Mountain State Toyota where I get my car. Specially, I want to thank to Doan Vu- sale adviser. Doan Vu is the best of the best seller I meet. I would be 5 star for dealer and Doan Vu with honestly and helpful. Thank you so much!"
